COFFEE STORY

From the highlands of Guji, in southern Ethiopia, this naturally processed coffee offers a vibrant and expressive cup, with notes of strawberry, cherry and brown sugar. Its distinctive character reflects the extraordinary coffee-growing heritage and biodiversity of the region.

The coffee is produced by more than 150 smallholder farmers working in close collaboration with Sweet Plus Coffee, a company founded by Fitsum Bekere. Coffee grows within an agroforestry system, where shade trees and other crops help protect the soil, preserve biodiversity and maintain a healthy agricultural ecosystem.

Fitsum is deeply committed to producing exceptional coffee while respecting the environment and supporting the communities who depend on it. Through Sweet Plus Coffee, he promotes agricultural training, responsible farming practices and greater opportunities for smallholder producers, combining traditional knowledge with a vision for a more sustainable future.

This coffee is also part of the Slow Food Coffee Coalition, an international network connecting producers, roasters and coffee enthusiasts who share a commitment to biodiversity, sustainability and a fairer coffee supply chain.

Our relationship with Fitsum began through conversations about his coffee and his approach to farming. After exchanging emails, messages and photographs of his work in Ethiopia, we finally had the pleasure of meeting him in person at the World of Coffee in Brussels.

For us, this coffee represents not only the remarkable flavours of Ethiopian coffee, but also the importance of building relationships with people who care deeply about their land, their communities and the future of coffee.
